Last week, Cyclone Kyant hit the Bay of Bengal–and we definitely felt the impact over in Kolkata. We were unable to leave the Institute because of a torrential downpour and eventually waded through the (at some points, knee-deep!) water to get home in the evening. The rains have now subsided and have brought about a much-needed bout of cooler weather. Now that Kolkata’s finally in the 70s, it’s the perfect weather for being outdoors and exploring different parts of the city.
I arrived in India in August and thus missed the monsoon season–however, I will be here next monsoon season and am looking forward to more rainy afternoons and waterlogged streets. I’ve never been a fan of the rain–but now consider it a welcome alternative to the sticky heat.
